The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will no longer be legal to produce R-22 as a result of its damage to the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, making it ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in Plover because it’ll help make your cooling system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to look into upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally phased out. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Point Heating & Cooling work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
