Using Your Fan and Air Conditioner in Plover04/13/2016The weather is finally getting warmer and soon you might have to switch over to your air conditioner. Along with setting up your annual air conditioner service with the experts at Point Heating & Cooling, there are a few other things you can do to remain comfortable and save money this season. During the in-between season in Plover, those far too few spring temps, you may use ceiling fans to keep cool. Did you know that using your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner could not only keep you more comfortable during the warmer days, but also save you money? In order to do that you have to be sure you’re utilizing ceiling fans and your air conditioning properly. Here’s a couple things to note: Raise Your Thermostat This is where the cost savings can potentially come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving on your bills. Raising your thermostat by even a couple degrees, in addition to using your ceiling fan, shouldn’t impact your comfort level very much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re lessening the duration of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner. Adjust Air Direction Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to change according to the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to make sure the air is blowing down. You can stand below the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, switch the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually cool your air, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than what the thermostat says. Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There Treat your ceiling fan like they are lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to feel the wind chill that a fan offers you’re wasting energy by using your fan. Remember, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
